Adhesive-Backed Abrasive Cloth Rolls

The brown abrasive face contacts the timber or fabricated metal workpiece. Pressure-sensitive adhesive on the reverse secures a cut strip to a compatible drum or sanding block; the white liner is removed before mounting.

For distributors and fit-out suppliers, a grit number alone is not a purchase specification. Match the abrasive grade, cloth flexibility, roll size and mounting method to the actual process, then confirm the construction with a sample.

How the Roll Is Built

A coated abrasive combines grain, a cloth backing and a bond that holds the grain. This format also has an adhesive mounting side. Because each layer serves a different purpose, the grain, backing and adhesive should be checked together for the intended use.

Abrasive Face

The brown working face removes material. Coarser grit cuts more aggressively; finer grit reduces the scratch pattern before the next process.

Cloth Backing

Backing weight and flexibility affect how a strip follows a curve or stays stable on a drum or sanding block.

Adhesive Reverse

The PSA side fixes the strip to a suitable mounting surface. Its white release liner is removed before use.

Define the OEM Specification

A useful purchase specification links the roll to a workpiece, equipment and finish target. Agree on the variables below before approving a sample for repeat orders.

VariableWhat to confirm
Grain and gritWorkpiece material, starting surface and target finish; approve the actual grain and grade by sample.
Cloth backingRequired flexibility for flat stock, contours or drum wrapping.
PSA mountingCompatibility with the actual drum, block or mounting surface.
Roll formatWidth, length, core diameter and winding orientation.
Packing and supplyCarton quantity, labeling, private-label artwork, trial volume and forecast demand.

For repeat orders: record the approved grain, grit, backing, adhesive, dimensions and pack format on one specification sheet. Availability, MOQ and lead time require confirmation against that sheet.

Choose Grit by the Sanding Stage

The bands below are general timber-sanding starting points, not a list of confirmed grades available for this product. Metal components and powered processes need separate sample checks.

Reference gritTypical taskCheck before moving on
80–120Initial shaping or mark removal.Avoid scratches too deep for the next stage.
150–240Intermediate smoothing.Inspect the surface before coating or polishing.
320–400Fine surface refinement.Verify the result against the downstream finish.

However, a reference band is not an availability claim. Confirm the final grit, abrasive mineral and progression before ordering.

Surface-Preparation Applications

Timber Trim and Joinery

Timber trim, prefabricated joinery and drum-sanded components may need different backing flexibility or grit. On curved profiles, check whether the strip follows the contour without wrinkling.

For drum use, confirm the cut width and mounting method with the equipment. The abrasive face must point toward the timber.

Fabricated Metal Components

For building-metal parts, specify whether the task is light deburring, scratch blending or preparation for a later finish. Identify the alloy, initial condition and target surface before comparing samples.

A PSA roll is not an endless sanding belt. Confirm the mounting method and equipment rating before powered use.

Product and Application Views

Approve the Sample Before Reordering

A repeatable roll needs more than a correct-looking photograph. Before reordering, compare:

  • Abrasive face: grade marking and even coating.
  • Roll geometry: width, length, core fit, winding direction and slit edges.
  • Mounting side: liner release and adhesion on the actual drum or block.
  • Use result: surface finish and attachment stability under your process conditions.
  • Supply identification: roll label, carton quantity and batch reference.

Buyer Questions

How does PSA differ from hook-and-loop abrasive?

PSA uses an adhesive reverse; hook-and-loop uses a mechanical fastening surface. They require different mounting surfaces and cannot be exchanged by changing grit alone.

Can width, length and grit be customized?

Send your target dimensions, grade and packaging format or an existing sample. We will confirm the feasible configuration, MOQ and lead time against the agreed specification.

Which grit should we choose?

Start with the amount of material to remove and the required final surface. Use a progression rather than one grade for every stage, then approve it on the actual workpiece.

Is this roll suitable for wet sanding?

Do not assume so from its appearance. Wet use depends on the abrasive bond, cloth and PSA; request a construction specifically approved for your process.

Specify the Process. Then Specify the Roll.

Send a drawing, current roll sample or the required grit, width, length, mounting surface and estimated volume. Include private-label packaging needs if applicable.
